Boston win the Series. It's a shame the Rockies did not show up and the contrast between the most exciting regular season ever and the damp squib of the Fall Classic could not be more acute. The last Series of equal torpor was the Sox 4-0 blow out of the Cardinals in 2004, but here's the thing. If you are a Boston fan 4-0 is EXACTLY what you want. All the tension of being a fan all your life is quite enough thanks.

In one sense, the Redsox did not allow the Rockies to show up. All four Redsox starters pitched well, Beckett excellently. Papelbon showed what a winner he was by his big game 4 save which was 90% mental in both senses (although I defy you to handle the last pitch of the Series). The Rockies only found any space to progress when the Redsox over-used Okajima or had the talented but weirdly nervy Delcarmen on the mound. Good defence is also part of that.
The reality is that the Rockies were a decent but not startling regular season team with a rather anonymous rotation that was stomped on by a Redsox team that hasn't looked as balanced as this for a long time. This Series has come too late for Helton and too soon perhaps for Tulowitzki, Hawpe, Atkins, Smith and Francis. The Rockies bench was singularly unimpressive all season except for Smith, a late season call-up.
Gotta love those sox! Took over first place on April 18th and they held on...that's what they did all season was maintain and hold on. It takes a whole team to win games in the playoffs, and that's exactly what happened for the guys wearing the B's
